UNESCO Beijing 40 Years in Actions
The UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia (UNESCO Beijing) is glad to present its Annual Report for 2024, capturing a memorable year marked by four decades of significant milestones and a steadfast commitment to the shared mission of fostering peace, sustainable development, and intercultural dialogue.
In 2024, the UNESCO Beijing Office proudly celebrated its 40th anniversary, reflecting on a journey that began in 1984 with its establishment to serve China. Today, the Office supports five East Asian countries: the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, Mongolia, the People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of Korea (ROK). A key highlight of the year was the opening of a new Antenna Office in Mongolia, further strengthening UNESCO’s support for the country’s development and marking a significant milestone as UNESCO became a UN resident agency in Mongolia.
In China, in particular, UNESCO Beijing has maintained close collaboration with the UN system over the years to promote sustainable development and peace. At this important juncture, the Office extends its sincere appreciation to all partners and colleagues for their enduring support and commitment. Looking ahead, UNESCO Beijing remains dedicated to advancing sustainable development through collaborative partnerships, diverse expertise, responsible innovation, and robust knowledge systems.
