UN in China Launches UN@80 Subway Campaign in Beijing, Bringing SDGs to Daily Life

28 September 2025

Beijing, China, 28 September 2025 – The United Nations (UN) in China today unveiled a campaign in the Beijing Subway to mark the 80th anniversary of the UN (UN@80).  With support from StarCharge, the campaign features UN@80 visuals on more than 200 digital screens across Beijing’s subway stations, and debuts a fully branded subway train. This campaign showcases the UN@80 identity and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“This campaign is more than a visual celebration. It is a call to action,” highlighted Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China. As the UN marks its 80th anniversary, he highlighted the values that brought the world together. By bringing the spirit of the SDGs into the daily journeys of millions in Beijing, the campaign demonstrates that the future we strive for is built through collective action. UN@80 is not only a milestone to reflect on past achievements, but also a moment to renew our shared commitment to deliver on the SDGs by 2030. We aim to carry forward the UN’s spirit of solidarity and collaborate toward a just, inclusive, and sustainable future,” he said.

Kong Yankang, General Manager of the Strategic Marketing Center at StarCharge, said: “We have closely studied the SDGs, especially SDG 7 on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. By embedding SDGs into our company’s strategy and practices and guided by our mission to ‘‘Build Sustainable Energy Together, Illuminate a Zero-Carbon Future’, our joint voice with the UN@80 campaign reflects our commitment to promoting sustainable development and fulfilling our corporate social responsibility.”

The campaign comes at a pivotal moment. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has noted, “Only 35 per cent of SDG targets are on track or making moderate progress. We are in a global development emergency.” This highlights the need for renewed commitment and collective action to accelerate progress toward the SDGs.

Running until 25 October 2025, this campaign is set to bring the UN’s vision and values to nearly 18 million ridership in the capital. It symbolizes how the values of peace, development, and sustainability are not distant aspirations, but part of everyday life for millions of people. The campaign also looks forward, reminding us that the journey toward the SDGs belongs to all of us, and that together, we can build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future.

This subway campaign is part of the broader UN@80 Campaign in China.
